Types of activity undertaken : Baseline survey for Sajhedari Bikas Project (2012-2017) which is being implemented in six Mid-Western and Far-Western districts of Nepal outreaching 50 percent of the VDCs in total from the selected districts. The Project focuses on areas of inclusion, local level participation, addressing of sudden conflicts and local level accountability. The perception survey is being conducted with a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. While the quantitative method employs household surveys (1,200 sample size), the qualitative method employs of Focus GroupDiscussions (FGD) and semi-structured interviews.

2. Name of the project : Perception Survey for Strategy Development of NPTF

Client : GIZ-Nepal Peace Trust Fund
Period of activity : February – April 2014
Types of activity undertaken : Perception survey among key stakeholders (high level civil servants, political leaders, former ministers of the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, civil society leaders and the media) regarding the accomplishments of the Nepal-donor basket fund, Nepal Peace Trust Fund (NPTF) and the areas it needs to concentrate on in the near future. IDA provided inputs in the design of the structured questionnaire and undertook the actual interviews with the key stakeholders. IDA was responsible for data entry, processing and report preparation as well. IDA also presented the findings to the government as well as the donors in two high level workshops.

Types of activity undertaken : Examination of the extent to which the completed projects under Cluster 1 and 2 of Nepal Peace Trust Fund were relevant in the country context, the extent to which expected outcomes have been achieved, whether the projects were cost effective, the intended and unintended, the long term and short term and positive and negative impacts of the projects, the outcomes that are attributable to the projects, and whether the project design and implementation arrangements were appropriate. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches will be employed.

Types of activity undertaken : Preparation of Socio-economic District Profiles of Taplejung, Panchthar, Ilam, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Tehrathum and Dhankuta as a part of the preparation of the project document for Growth and Employment in Nepal (GEPIN); identifying demographic and socio-economic opportunities and constraints for inclusive growth for each of the seven districts; identifying existing environmental issues that impact negatively on people's livelihood; and assessing current and future climate change effects and outlining potential adaptation measures; analyzing issues of specific relevance for the three value chains – orthodox tea, milk and ginger – and making recommendation for addressing the issues.

Type of activities undertaken : Undertaking a nationwide survey of 1,500 respondents spread across 25 districts and 17 in-depth interviews of various caste/ethnic group people. Examining issues such as identity fusion; power/status/legitimacy/stability; group influences; power distance; voice; procedural justice; distributive justice; disengagement; resistance; government legitimacy; propensity towards violence; etc.

11. Name of project : Entrepreneurial Literacy Program Outcome Study

Client : Winrock International/USAID
Period of activity : June 2012 – September 2012
Type of activities undertaken : Education for Income Generation (EIG) is a program which aims to improve disadvantaged youth’s access to education and training in order to expand their opportunities for employment and income generation. It is funded by USAID and implemented by a consortium led by Winrock International in 15 districts of Mid-western region of the country. The program endeavors to directly benefit 75,000 youth. IDA's study attempted to assess the outcomes and impacts of component 1 viz. the ten months' entrepreneurial literacy program. The study was based on the findings of a household questionnaire survey, focus group discussions, key informant interviews, observations and desk reviews.

12. Name of project : Assessment of Nepal Transition to Peace (NTTP)

Period of activity:April 2012 – August 2012
Type of activities undertaken : NTTP is a forum of leaders of Nepal's major political parties and its goal is to facilitate the peace-making and consensus building process by creating an "informal, closed and trusted dialogue space". IDA interviewed nine politicians and three facilitators currently involved in the NTTP forum, seven politicians not involved (currently or ever) in the NTTP forum, and eleven independent analysts for a total of 30 individuals. The purpose of the assessment was to assess the effectiveness and salience of NTTP.

14. Name of project : Measuring Security from a Beneficiary Perspective: An assessment of armed violence prevention and reduction intervention in Nepal.

Type of activities undertaken: Quantitative and qualitative research methods applied to understand how normal development interventions that do not explicitly aim to reduce armed violence indirectly help to promote social security within their project areas. Sample size: 251 in Accham and 252 in Bardiya. FGD (Focus Group Discussions), KII (Key Informant Interview) and HHS (Household Survey) were applied as research methods to generate data.
